September 11, 2007 Update,

Late last week, the AHS Board of Directors received a very positive report on the events at the 2007 100 Day Test at Paxton Farm. Liaison Suzanne Quarles (and AHS board member) had the opportunity to see the majority of the horses under saddle and has had private, in- depth conversations with two of the stallion owners who had had a chance to visit their stallions at the testing. According to Suzanne, the horses she saw under saddle were all very well ridden by competent riders.

Suzanne indicated that a number of positive changes have been made this year including permitting use of certain medications and supplements. Stallion owners, under veterinary prescription, are allowed to provide their stallions these medications and supplements via SmartPak. This was one change that Suzanne was able to implement on behalf of the stallion owners. Suzanne also mentioned that the stallions were being closely monitored and written records were being maintained for each of them. Owners are receiving regular updates particularly if a change in the stallion is noticed.

The two stallion owners with whom Suzanne had spoken both had positive reports. Both were pleased with the condition and training of their stallions and the facilities. One stallion owner is quoted (roughly) as "Even if he doesn't pass, he will have received a 100 days of quality training."

Suzanne also mentioned the following:

1) One stallion has been sent home due to a pre-existing medical condition as of the stallion's arrival at the testing. The condition was evaluated and confirmed by multiple vets and the decision was made to send the stallion home.

2) One stallion has been suffering from an unspecified condition that is being treated with antibiotics. This stallion is being closely monitored.

3) One stallion managed to injure himself in his stall. The injury is cosmetic and being treated.

The AHS Board of Directors wishes best of luck to all the stallions and their owners.
